Jam and juice
Last week I spend visiting my great uncle (+ my aunt and cousin who were also visiting him) with my mum. And somehow I ended up making gooseberry jam and apple juice (hopefully with hint of ginger). So here is some picts of me making nommy stuff.

First I picked nearly 1.7kg gooseberries AND I HAVE SCARS TO PROVE IT! :P But omg I love those berries. OMNOMNOM. Basically I throwed ~6dl water, 1kg sugar and the gooseberries in kettle and let it simmer until it looked fine. (Well waited until mum said it’s fine :P). I got five umm some size of jars or gooseberry jam. :D

This here is what we here call “mehumaija”. It extracts the juice from your berries/fruits with the help of steam. You fill the lowest kettle with water (which then evaporates), your source of juice will go to the top kettle (it’s basically a big sieve) and the juice will slowly drip in the middle kettle.

There is ~3.5kg apples and one ginger root.

Apples aren’t exactly the most practical fruit for making juice in mehumaija. They are quite hard so softening takes a while and err I took a little nap. Also you should remember to check that there is water all the time in lowest kettle.

And this is what I got. ~2.7 litres apple juice. I drained juice in another kettle from the steaming kettle to boil it for a moment with ginger and mixed sugar in it. The amount of sugar was about something. :P It looks bit weird because there is little bit apple meat and crushed ginger. I did filter the juice obviously before pouring it in freezer boxes.
:D

Omg, that jam looks so good. :9 Seems like super simple to make too, I’ve never made jam from fresh fruit! I bet it’s extra tasty. :D
